You can collect lots of batteries at school, but safety requires some restrictions. Here you will find out which batteries are welcome in the collection unit at school and which are not.
You can also find a handy poster with an overview here in Dutch and French.
You CAN collect these batteries at school
Undamaged consumer batteries you bring from home that fit into the circular insertion opening of your collection drum.
These batteries include:
AA and AAA batteries
C and D batteries
9-volt batteries with poles taped off
Button cells in small quantities with the + and – poles taped off
You CANNOT collect these batteries at school
Mobile phones and laptop batteries
Power banks
Electric fence batteries and large batteries
Traction and automotive batteries
Bicycle batteries
Large quantities of button cells
Damaged batteries or packs
-
- Leaking batteries
- Swollen batteries
- Exposed batteries (without casing)
- Batteries or packs with exposed contacts
These batteries belong in other collection points with the proper safe collection resources, such as recycling centres.
Note: it is never permitted to collect previously collected batteries. This applies to batteries from stores, companies, recycling centres, other schools, etc. Never accept batteries from companies for collection at school: industrial batteries do not belong here. Only consumer batteries from home are allowed.
