What batteries can we collect at school?

You can collect lots of batteries at school, but safety requires some restrictions. Here you will find out which batteries are welcome in the collection unit at school and which are not.

You CAN collect these batteries at school

Undamaged consumer batteries you bring from home that fit into the circular insertion opening of your collection drum.

These batteries include:

circle-check AA and AAA batteries

circle-check C and D batteries

circle-check 9-volt batteries with poles taped off

circle-check Button cells in small quantities with the + and – poles taped off

You CANNOT collect these batteries at school

circle-x-2 Mobile phones and laptop batteries

circle-x-2 Power banks

circle-x-2 Electric fence batteries and large batteries

circle-x-2 Traction and automotive batteries

circle-x-2 Bicycle batteries

circle-x-2 Large quantities of button cells

circle-x-2 Damaged batteries or packs

    • Leaking batteries
    • Swollen batteries
    • Exposed batteries (without casing)
    • Batteries or packs with exposed contacts
circle-x-2 Batteries or button cells for industrial uses or of professional origin

These batteries belong in other collection points with the proper safe collection resources, such as recycling centres.


Note:
it is never permitted to collect previously collected batteries. This applies to batteries from stores, companies, recycling centres, other schools, etc. Never accept batteries from companies for collection at school: industrial batteries do not belong here. Only consumer batteries from home are allowed.
