How to use the new Bebat codes for ESS?

From 1 May 2025, the definition of ESS modules subject to the environmental contribution will be expanded. All ESS modules in an installation ≤ 16 MWh must be declared under the environmental contribution, including residential applications (such as home batteries), commercial & industrial applications, and Plug & Play batteries.

For the declarations of ESS modules, Bebat also provides new Bebat codes. This means that for the declarations of ESS modules:

  • You can use the old Bebat codes for batteries put on the market before 01/05/2025
  • You must use the new Bebat codes for batteries put on the market from 01/05/2025
  • You can voluntarily use the new Bebat codes for ESS modules > 200 kg put on the market between 01/01/2025 and 30/04/2025

The new Bebat codes can thus be used in MyBebat from 1 June 2025.

The old Bebat codes for ESS modules (which have been subject to the environmental contribution since 2022) can no longer be used from then onwards (except for the declaration periods from January to April 2025).

Old Bebat codes

Until the declaration period of April 2025, the following Bebat codes apply for ESS modules:

  • A111060010 – Lead ESS ≤ 3 kg
  • A111060020 – Lead ESS > 3 kg (administrative contribution)
  • A210060010 – Lithium-ion ESS ≤ 200 kg
  • A210060020 – Lithium-ion ESS > 200 kg (administrative contribution)
  • A213060010 – Saltwater ESS ≤ 200 kg
  • A213060020 – Saltwater ESS > 200 kg (administrative contribution)

These Bebat codes can be used until the declaration period of April 2025. For declarations from the declaration period of May 2025, the new Bebat codes must be used. You cannot select the old codes in MyBebat from that declaration period onwards.

New Bebat codes

From the declaration period of May 2025, the following Bebat codes apply for all ESS modules - including residential applications such as home batteries, commercial & industrial applications, and Plug & Play batteries:

  • A111060030 – Lead ESS (administrative contribution)
  • A210060030 – Lithium-ion ESS in an installation ≤ 16 MWh
  • A213060030 – Saltwater ESS in an installation ≤ 16 MWh

These Bebat codes must therefore be used from the declaration period of May 2025 for the declaration of ESS modules.

Voluntary declaration of ESS modules > 200 kg (of installations ≤ 16 MWh) and Plug & Play batteries

ESS modules that newly fall under the environmental contribution from 1 May 2025 and are put on the market between 1 January and 30 April 2025 can be voluntarily declared under the environmental contribution for the declaration periods from January to April 2025. This way, you won't face any financial risk in the future and Bebat will also take care of the collection and processing of these batteries.

If you choose to declare these batteries, you must use the new Bebat codes (as mentioned above) for this (declaration period January 2025 to declaration period April 2025).

Lead ESS modules remain subject to the administrative contribution system.

Batteries put on the market before 1 May 2025 and not voluntarily declared will also remain subject to the current administrative contribution system with guarantee arrangements.

There is no transition period, so this arrangement will take immediate effect.
